Happy Hobbit Day 2014

hobbit day party

Yesterday our family hosted our second annual Hobbit Day party. In the fictitious world of Middle-Earth, Hobbit Day is the shared birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. In the real world, it happens to be the first day of Fall. Both are great excuses for gathering family and friends for an outdoor gathering. Intermittent rain threatened all day to cancel our plans but the skies cleared by late afternoon, settling into a brisk but lovely fall evening just in time. I love party planning and really enjoyed putting this year’s celebration together. The fun is in the details. Unfortunately being hostess and photographer at the same time doesn’t work well; I missed my chance to capture many of those hobbitish details. I wish I had time elaborate on them with words, as well as the details I did capture. (Those of you who are Tolkien fans will pick up on some of them even without hints.) However, in the absence of time to write a long blog post, these photos will have to tell the tale…
